| Reverse description | The large numeral '5' dominates the central field, with the denomination rendered below in Sinhala script (සත පහ) and Tamil script (ஐந்து சதம்), followed by the English legend FIVE CENTS, and the date 1975 at the bottom. The trilingual inscriptions and date are enclosed within a decorative wreath of stylized floral and foliate motifs that frames the entire reverse design. The country name ශ්රී ලංකා appears in Sinhala script along the upper arc of the wreath border. |

| Additional information |
Sri Lanka's transition from Ceylon was formalized in May 1972, and the coinage series followed — though not immediately. This 1975 issue belongs to the first decimal series struck under the Sri Lanka name, replacing the Ceylon rupee coinage that had circulated largely unchanged since the early independence period. The nickel brass composition was a practical choice given copper-nickel shortages affecting several Commonwealth mints at the time.
