Obverse description The complete national arms of Sri Lanka occupies the central field, depicting the Sinhala lion passant holding a sword in its right forepaw, set within a circular medallion surrounded by concentric decorative rings and a beaded border. Surmounting the crest is the Dhamma Chakra (Wheel of the Law). The base of the shield rests upon a traditional Sinhalese pot of plenty flanked by a bo leaf spray on each side, with a sun disc to the lower left and a crescent moon to the lower right. The entire design is rendered in high relief against a plain field with no peripheral legend on this face.
