| 背面描述 | The reverse bears a bare-headed right-facing portrait bust of Sir Milton Margai, first Prime Minister of Sierra Leone, engraved with fine stippled detail by Christopher Ironside. The effigy is centrally positioned within the field, with the engraver's initials MR visible at the lower truncation of the bust. The national motto UNITY·FREEDOM·JUSTICE arcs across the upper legend in evenly spaced capital letters separated by raised dots. The name SIR MILTON MARGAI is inscribed along the lower periphery, completing the circular surround, with additional dot separators punctuating the legend. |

Sierra Leone's first post-independence coinage was issued in 1964, just three years after the country left British colonial administration in 1961. The Bank of Sierra Leone contracted the Royal Mint to produce the series, a practical arrangement that reflected the new nation's limited infrastructure rather than any residual colonial allegiance — the Royal Mint was simply the most accessible facility capable of handling the commission on schedule.
