Mô tả mặt sau	Within a wreath of oak leaves and acorns tied at the base, the denomination legend CINQ CENTIMES is inscribed in two lines across the upper field, followed by the date 1838 on a third line. Below the date, a clasped-hands device (symbolising good faith) is flanked by the mint monogram M C, with the letters disposed on either side. The entire design is enclosed by a beaded border matching the obverse.

This 1838 essai was part of a proposed coinage reform that never reached full production, leaving trial pieces as the only material evidence of the attempt.
