| Opis awersu | Central field features a large stylised numeral '5' rendered in Arabic script (٥) set within a broad concentric raised ring, creating a bold focal design element. The surrounding legend in Arabic script reads 'الجمهورية الجزائرية الديمقراطية الشعبية' (The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria) along the upper periphery, while the denomination 'خمسة سنتيمات' (Five Centimes) appears along the lower border. The inscription is separated from the central design by a finely beaded inner border, with ornamental foliate flourishes framing the lower legend. The overall design is clean and modernist, reflecting the post-independence Algerian aesthetic. |

Issued as part of the FAO's global coin program, which throughout the late 1960s and 1970s persuaded central banks worldwide to dedicate circulating issues to agricultural development themes. Algeria's participation came just eight years after independence, during a period when the government was aggressively restructuring land ownership through socialist agrarian reform — the same political program that would culminate in the 1971 Agricultural Revolution decree nationalizing all privately held farmland above set acreage limits.
