| Obverse description | Central device depicting the Sol de Mayo, a radiant sun with alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a circular disc bearing a stylized human face in low relief. The sun motif, emblematic of Uruguayan national symbolism, occupies the majority of the field. The circumferential legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY arcs around the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with the date 1857 inscribed at the base flanked by small floral or foliate ornaments.
