Obverse description The Cuban national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a shield quartered with a key and two rocks between two coastal promontories in the base, a rising sun above horizontal blue and white stripes in the upper section, and a royal palm tree at center; the shield is supported by a fasces to the left and a Phrygian cap on a pole to the right, with an oak branch and a laurel branch flanking below. The country name REPUBLICA DE CUBA appears as a curved legend along the upper rim, while the denomination CINCO CENTAVOS curves along the lower rim. A continuous row of denticles frames the design close to the rim.
