| Obverse description | Printed in dark green on plain paper, the vignette occupies the full face and reproduces a Romanesque arcade of three ornately carved arches, each opening onto a view of the city of Coimbra, closely referencing the cloister arcading of the Old Cathedral (Sé Velha). Denomination numerals '5' appear in circular cartouches above the lateral arches, while a decorative frieze of stylized foliage runs along the upper and lower borders. The issuer's name is inscribed in a plain letterpress band at the top, and the denomination legend appears in a matching band at the foot. |
