| 表面の説明 | The Philippine national coat of arms occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield bearing a radiant sun with eight rays in the upper left, three five-pointed stars across the chief, a spread eagle in the lower left, and a lion passant in the lower right. The legend 'CENTRAL BANK OF THE PHILIPPINES' curves along the upper periphery, while the inscription 'REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES' appears on a scroll at the base of the shield. The device is rendered in moderate relief against a flat field. |

The Central Bank of the Philippines was established only in 1949, replacing the Philippine Treasury and severing the country's direct currency dependence on the United States after decades of colonial monetary policy. These brass centavo denominations were among the first coins issued entirely under Filipino institutional authority, though the U.S. Philadelphia and San Francisco mints continued to strike Philippine coinage well into this period.
