Ghana's wildlife coin programs of the early 2010s were produced under licensing arrangements with the European minting firm B.H. Mayer, which handled design and distribution for several African nations issuing silver bullion-adjacent collector pieces during this period. The series found its primary market in European collectors rather than Ghanaian circulation — none of these pieces ever moved through domestic commerce.
KM#54 is one of the harder assignments in the Ghana wildlife sequence to pin to a specific mintage figure, as production numbers were controlled by the distributor rather than the issuing authority.
