Ghana's choice of this prehistoric cervid for a bullion-adjacent commemorative is commercially driven rather than historically connected; the Bank of Ghana has issued a broad series of wildlife-themed silver rounds since the mid-2010s targeting the collector and investor market, most produced under license by European minting houses with little domestic circulation.
