| Obverse description | The obverse features four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in cruciform reading order around a central square hole: 咸 (Xian) above, 豐 (Feng) below, 通 (Tong) to the right, and 寶 (Bao) to the left, forming the reign title and monetary inscription 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao). The characters are rendered in bold, well-defined relief against a flat field, exhibiting the authoritative calligraphic style typical of Qing dynasty cash coinage. A plain raised rim borders the coin, and the square central perforation is neatly cast with squared inner edges. |
