Reverse description The reverse displays a denomination inscription arranged around the central square hole, with one Chinese character above (當, Dang) and one below (五, Wu, meaning 'five'), flanked on either side by the two Manchu script characters ᠪᠣᠣ (Boo) and ᠰᡠ (Su), reading vertically and identifying the Suzhou Mint. The Manchu characters are cast in raised relief and are separated by the square perforation. A plain raised rim encircles the design, consistent with standard Qing cash coin production of the Xianfeng period.
