Venezuela's 2021 paper issues represent an almost absurd moment in monetary history: by the time this note entered circulation, the country had already launched its second redenomination in three years, lopping six zeros off the bolívar soberano to create the bolívar digital in October 2021. A 5 bolívares note in that environment had negligible purchasing power from the day it was printed.
Cotton substrate with basic security features — thread and watermark — at a time when hyperinflation was rendering notes obsolete faster than they could be distributed.
