| Obverse description | Central oval cartouche bearing the Bernese bear passant to left on a diagonally striped (barry) shield, surmounted by a coronet and flanked by laurel sprays tied at the base, all within a beaded border. The legend CANTON BERN arcs across the upper field, with the date 1826 continuing along the right side. The denomination 5 BAZ appears in the lower exergual area beneath a horizontal bar. The overall design is executed in high relief with crisp, well-defined detail characteristic of the Bern Mint's early nineteenth-century milled coinage. |

| Reverse description | A large ornate Swiss cross occupies the centre of the field, its arms decorated with quatrefoil tracery and terminating in curved lobes; a small letter C appears at the centre of the cross. The circular legend DIE CONCORDIER • CANTONE DER SCHWEIZ runs along the upper and lower periphery, separated by a small rosette stop at the base. The entire design is enclosed within a tightly beaded outer border. The composition alludes to the Concordat of the Swiss Cantons and served as a common type for several Swiss cantonal issues of this period. |
