| Beschrijving voorzijde | Green and pink intaglio-printed note with the full title of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation arched across the upper portion, flanked by the denomination numeral '5' in each corner and the serial number in two positions. A central vignette presents the corporation's armorial crest, with the branch designation 'BANGKOK' below and the manuscript date '1st August 1891' to the right. The promise-to-pay text in English reads 'FIVE TICALS Local Currency,' accompanied by Thai script and Chinese characters '暹銀伍銖' in the side margins; the note closes with two manuscript signatures above the printed legend 'By Order of the Board of Directors' and 'BANGKOK' in a decorative banner at the foot. |

| Opmerkingen |
The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation held a license to issue banknotes in Siam during the late nineteenth century, one of several foreign banks permitted to do so before the government moved to consolidate currency under state control. This note predates the establishment of the Thai government's own paper money by nearly a decade — the Ministry of Finance didn't issue its first notes until 1902.
Barclay & Fry operated out of Bristol, not London, despite the London credit sometimes associated with their output. A detail worth flagging when reconciling printer records against catalogue entries.
