| Opis awersu | The obverse is printed in green on cream paper and presents an allegorical vignette to the left, in which a standing female figure crowned with laurel and holding a caduceus is accompanied by a seated male figure draped in robes, rendered in a classical intaglio style. The numeral "5" appears in large format at the upper left, flanked by ornate guilloche borders incorporating Asian decorative motifs including dragon-like creatures. The text area to the right carries the bank name, issuing decrees, place and date of issue, the bilingual denomination in English and French, and spaces for two manuscript signatures above the titles "Un Administrateur" and "Le Directeur". |

The Banque de l'Indo-Chine was chartered in Paris in 1875 with the exclusive privilege of note issue across French Indochina, and this 1898 Siamese branch issue is one of its most geographically specific products — denominated in both Baht and Ticals to serve a border commerce that French colonial administration could not fully contain within its own currency system. The dual denomination was a concession to Siamese monetary reality, not a clerical overlap.
Dupuis was one of the foremost medallists of the Paris Mint; Léveillé's intaglio work for this series is among the finer engraving coming out of French colonial note production in the 1890s.
