Reverse description The central field bears the combined heraldic shield of Schleswig-Holstein: the dexter half displays two walking lions passant on a diaper-patterned field representing the arms of Schleswig, while the sinister half displays the nettle leaf (Nesselblatt) device on a plain field representing the arms of Holstein. The legend 'UP EWIG UNGEDEELT' — the Low German motto meaning 'Forever Undivided' — curves along the upper border in raised Latin capitals. The date '1923' appears in the lower field beneath the shield, flanked on either side by small ornamental rosette stops.
