Opmerkingen

The 1959 Indonesian 5.000 Rupiah was issued during a period of acute monetary instability — the same year President Sukarno's government enacted a currency reform that abruptly halved the value of larger-denomination notes in circulation, a move that wiped out savings and deepened public distrust in paper currency. This note's very existence reflects the inflationary pressures that made high denominations necessary so early in the republic's banking history.

The P#71B designation distinguishes a signature variety, a detail that matters more than it might seem given how rapidly Bank Indonesia's leadership turned over during the Guided Democracy period.
