正面描述	The obverse is printed in shades of green and olive, centred around an intaglio portrait vignette of the poet and philosopher Antero de Quental (1842–1891), shown in three-quarter view against a guilloche underprint interspersed with stylised dove motifs. The issuer name BANCO DE PORTUGAL and the denomination 5000 / CINCO MIL ESCUDOS appear to the left, with the date LISBOA, 12 DE FEVEREIRO DE 1987 and two facsimile signatures of the Governor and Vice-Governor printed below the central vignette. The serial number in the upper right and lower left corners, along with the check number ch.2, complete the face design.
