Obverse description Black and orange engraved note with an intaglio vignette of Queen Victoria in state regalia at the left, set within an ornate frame of guilloche lathe-work. The centre carries a large numeral 5000 denomination counter in orange, flanked by repeated corner counters, with the title 'THE DOMINION OF CANADA' in bold Gothic lettering across the upper field and the legend 'FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS' on a panel below. Zeroed specimen serial numbers appear in orange at upper centre, with a printed signature and manuscript denomination notation visible at the lower right.

Reverse description Printed entirely in brown, the reverse is composed of elaborate engine-turned guilloche rosettes arranged symmetrically across the field, with a large central numeral 5000 counter enclosed within concentric lathe-work rings. Two flanking oval guilloche panels each bear the numeral 5000, while corner counters repeat the denomination. The inscription 'DOMINION OF CANADA' runs along the upper border scroll and 'FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS' is set on a panel at the lower centre, all framed by a continuous border of repeated denomination numerals.
