| Obverse description | Light green underprint on cream paper with the issuer name 'HESSISCHE LANDESBANK' set in spaced blackletter type across the top, followed by the subtitle 'Notgeldschein über' in italic script. The denomination 'FÜNF MILLIARDEN MARK' is printed in large dark red Gothic letterpress text at centre, flanked by decorative flourishes. The lower portion carries a multi-line legal text in German script, the place and date 'Darmstadt, den 1.
