Two flanking vertical side panels carry red vignettes of stylised standing figures within guilloche borders, with the issuer name 'PHOENIX / Aktien-Gesellschaft für Bergbau und Hüttenbetrieb' printed vertically at left. The central field bears a fine cross-hatched guilloche underprint over which the denomination '5 BILLIONEN MARK' is printed in bold block letters, surmounted by the legend 'GUTSCHEIN ÜBER'; below the denomination a serial number, a two-line validity clause in italics, the place and date, and the issuer name 'PHOENIX' appear, with two manuscript signatures at foot and the printer's imprint 'GREVEN & BECHTOLD, KÖLN' at the base. |

The central oval guilloche field, flanked by symmetrical decorative scroll-work in olive-brown, contains a vertical red rectangular underprint panel over which the denomination 'FÜNF BILLIONEN MARK' is printed in large bold block letters. A cancellation hole is punch-cancelled at the lower centre of the note. |
