| Obverse description | Bicolour Notgeld in olive-brown and red on cream paper, dated Düsseldorf, 10. November 1923. Two flanking vertical side panels carry red vignettes of stylised standing figures within guilloche borders, with the issuer name 'PHOENIX / Aktien-Gesellschaft für Bergbau und Hüttenbetrieb' printed vertically at left. The central field bears a fine cross-hatched guilloche underprint over which the denomination '5 BILLIONEN MARK' is printed in bold block letters, surmounted by the legend 'GUTSCHEIN ÜBER'; below the denomination a serial number, a two-line validity clause in italics, the place and date, and the issuer name 'PHOENIX' appear, with two manuscript signatures at foot and the printer's imprint 'GREVEN & BECHTOLD, KÖLN' at the base. |
