| Descrizione del dritto | Central field occupied by the crowned Portuguese royal arms — the escutcheon bearing the quinas (five bezants in saltire) within a bordure of castles — surmounted by an elaborate royal crown rendered in high relief. The denomination '4000' appears to the left of the shield, and four stylised rosette ornaments are arranged vertically to the right. The peripheral legend, in bold Latin characters, encircles the design and identifies the sovereign. The overall composition is characteristic of the early milled coinage struck at the Vila Rica mint under João V. |

| Descrizione del rovescio | Central device consists of the Cross of the Order of Christ — a broad, splayed cross with triangular terminations — placed within a square frame, with one large capital letter M occupying each of the four quadrants formed by the arms of the cross, together representing the mint mark of Vila Rica (MMMM). The date appears prominently in the upper portion of the legend, flanked by small star stops. The circumferential Latin motto is separated by small rosette ornaments at the cardinal points of the border. |
