Vefa Spor Kulübü, founded in Istanbul's Vefa neighborhood in 1908, is among the oldest sports clubs in Turkey — its centennial falling precisely on the hundredth anniversary of the Republic's predecessor state, the Young Turk Revolution of July 1908. This commemorative was issued as part of a broader Turkish State Mint program marking centennials of clubs founded in that politically charged year.
