The full national coat of arms of Uruguay occupies the central field, depicting a quartered oval shield surmounted by a radiant rising sun; the upper quarters display scales of justice and a fortified hill with cannon, while the lower quarters show an ox and a horse. The shield is encircled by a rope border and flanked by crossed national flags, lances, and military trophies. The peripheral legend REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY curves along the upper rim in raised Latin letters, with the date 1854 prominent in the lower exergue below the trophy group. |
