The upper and larger field presents a central woodcut-style vignette enclosed in a ruled rectangular frame, portraying a bear and a wolf amid a dense woodland landscape with a body of water visible in the background; flanking the vignette on each side are vertical panels in red and black bearing stylised wave and foliate ornaments alongside the denomination '40 PF'.
