| Obverse description | Central field bearing a multi-line Arabic inscription naming Sultan Mahmud II ibn Abdulhamid with the invocation of victory, and recording the mint city of Tripoli West (Tarabulus Gharb) along with the AH date 1223. The inscription is arranged in several horizontal registers across the field. The entire design is enclosed within a characteristic lozenge (diamond-pattern) border, which itself is surrounded by an outer beaded or dotted rim, a distinctive feature of Type C issues from this mint. |
