The emperor's features are rendered with stylized authority, the eye large and frontal in the Byzantine manner despite the profile orientation. The imperial legend encircles the bust, running from left to right along the coin's periphery. The flan is irregular, as is typical of hammered Byzantine folles struck at provincial mints during this period. |

| Popis rubu | Central field dominated by a large capital M, the Greek numeral denoting 40 nummi (one follis), flanked on either side by a six-pointed star. A cross surmounts the M above, while the officina letter Γ (indicating the third workshop) appears beneath the M in the lower central field. The mint signature ΘYΠOΛS, the Byzantine name for Theopolis (Antioch on the Orontes), is inscribed in the exergue below a dividing line. The design follows the standardized Anastasian follis reform type, adapted for the Antioch mint under Justinian I. |
