Brandenberg is a small Tirolean village in the Inn valley, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1920 places it among the hundreds of Austrian municipalities that were forced to produce their own small-denomination emergency currency after the collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left a severe coin shortage.
