| Mô tả mặt trước | Central device features a radiant sun with alternating straight and wavy rays, set within a plain field. The sun's face is rendered in relief at the center of the burst. A circular legend surrounds the device reading REPUBLICA ORIENTAL DEL URUGUAY, with the date 1854 positioned at the base of the coin below the solar motif. The design is characteristic of the Uruguayan national emblematic style of the mid-nineteenth century. |

| Mô tả mặt sau | Central device depicts a facing portrait bust, possibly allegorical, enclosed within a raised circular border and set against a textured field. The bust is surrounded by an ornate wreath of laurel or olive branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow, lending a classical republican aesthetic. The legend CENTESIMOS arcs above the central medallion within the wreath border. The overall composition is deeply struck in high relief, consistent with a pattern or essai strike intended for approval rather than circulation. |

| Thông tin bổ sung |
Uruguay's early coinage history is tangled with provisional dependence on foreign-struck pieces and repeated failed attempts to establish a domestic currency. This 1854 trial was never approved for circulation — the young republic's monetary infrastructure wasn't yet capable of supporting regular issue, and the pattern was shelved without progressing to production.
At 41 grams in copper, it's a notably heavy piece for a fractional denomination, which may itself have contributed to its rejection.
