Marc'Antonio Zondadari served as Grand Master for only three years, from 1720 to 1722, making his coinage among the shorter-lived issues in the Order's monetary history. A Sienese nobleman by birth, he was the nephew of Pope Alexander VII — a connection that smoothed his ecclesiastical rise considerably. The 4 Tari was the workhorse denomination of Hospitaller silver coinage, circulating not just on Malta but across the central Mediterranean trade network the Order still maintained despite its increasingly ceremonial military role.
KM#162 is occasionally found with die-alignment inconsistencies attributable to the Valletta mint's small production runs under short-reigning Grand Masters.
