| Obverse description | Bust of Saint John the Baptist facing right, depicted with flowing hair and beard in a broadly rendered baroque style, occupying the central field within a raised inner circle. The surrounding legend reads ORA PRO NOBIS S. IOAN. BAP. (Pray for us, Saint John the Baptist), inscribed in Latin capitals along the periphery. A beaded border frames the entire design. The portrait is characteristic of the hammered coinage produced under the Order of Saint John at Malta, with bold if somewhat crude relief typical of mid-17th century striking. |
