The composition is executed in the hammered medieval tradition with bold, if somewhat irregular, relief typical of municipal Low Countries coinage. The legend runs continuously around the periphery in Latin capital letters. The overall design reflects the civic pride and heraldic conventions common to late sixteenth-century Dutch provincial coinage. |
