| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central shield bearing the arms of Groningen superimposed on the breast of a displayed double-headed eagle, the entire device set upon a voided cross whose arms intersect a circumscribed quadrilobe, all within a beaded inner circle. The composition is executed in the hammered medieval tradition with bold, if somewhat irregular, relief typical of municipal Low Countries coinage. The legend runs continuously around the periphery in Latin capital letters. The overall design reflects the civic pride and heraldic conventions common to late sixteenth-century Dutch provincial coinage. |

The circumferential Latin legend runs around the outer field and concludes with the date of issue appended at the end. The composition is characteristic of the decorative reverse types employed on Groningen municipal billon coinage throughout the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. |
