| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse depicts the Doge Leonardo Loredan kneeling in profile to the left, in his ceremonial ducal robes and corno ducale, before Saint Mark the Evangelist, who is seated facing and extends his right hand in blessing. A vertical staff or cross divides the two figures. The surrounding Latin legend reads LEO LAVRED S M VENETI, identifying the Doge and invoking Saint Mark as patron of Venice. The overall design follows the established Venetian tradition of the so-called 'Doge and Saint Mark' type, rendered in the flat, incised style characteristic of hammered coinage of the early sixteenth century. |
