Obverse description Saint Mark, nimbed and robed, seated facing left, presenting a scroll or book to the kneeling Doge Andrea Gritti, who is shown in ducal robes and corno ducale; between them stands a long staff or banner pole. The composition is rendered in the late medieval Venetian hammered style typical of the early sixteenth century. A horizontal line separates the main figural field from the exergue below, which contains the mintmaster's initials. The circumferential Latin legend runs around the periphery of the coin, interrupted by pellets as dividers.
