| Aanvullende informatie |
Charles Emmanuel II was nine years old when this coin was struck in 1642, with his mother Christine of France holding power as regent. The duchy was navigating a precarious position between French influence — Christine was Louis XIII's sister — and the persistent pressure of Spanish Milan to the south. Real authority during these years resided with Christine and, increasingly, with Cardinal Mazarin's strategic interests in the region.
The four-scudi denomination in gold was a high-value instrument of state finance and diplomatic exchange, not everyday commerce. Survivors in any grade are scarce.
