Stade's coinage authority in 1600 was itself under dispute — the city operated as a nominally independent issuer while simultaneously contesting Swedish and Danish commercial pressures in the lower Elbe region, a tension that would culminate in Swedish occupation by 1645. Small silver fractions like this one circulated heavily in the port trade economy, and survivors showing genuine wear are actually the more historically honest specimens.
