Obverse description Central field occupied by the quartered Royal Arms of Spain, displaying castles and lions in alternating quarters, surmounted by an arched crown. To the left of the shield, the aqueduct mintmark of Segovia appears above the assayer's initial 'B' (or 'R'), while the denomination mark 'R' appears to the right. The circular Latin legend reads CAROLVS II D G HISPANIAR REX, distributed around the periphery, interrupted by small fleur-de-lis or star ornaments. The entire design is struck by the roller mill technique, imparting characteristic flat relief and a slightly oval flan. The coin's toothed border is well defined.
