| Reverse description | Central device features a quartered cross with castles and lions in the four quarters, rendered in the bold, irregular style typical of macuquina (cob) coinage. The cross is elaborately ornamented with trefoil terminals in the Burgundian style. The peripheral legend HISPANIARVM REX INDIARVM encircles the design, distributed between a beaded inner and outer border. The fields show the characteristic uneven striking surface inherent to the hammered planchet technique. A suspension hole is pierced at the top of the flan, consistent with the obverse. |
