Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Charles II facing right, rendered in high relief with flowing long hair and armoured shoulder pauldron visible beneath the drapery. A thistle mintmark appears above the bust toward the upper left field. The portrait is executed in a bold Baroque style characteristic of Scottish milled coinage of the Restoration period. The obverse legend is interrupted by the bust and reads CAROLVS II DEI GRA, disposed around the periphery with an inner beaded border and an outer reeded rim.
