| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate crowned royal cipher of Christian V, comprising interlaced script initials rendered in an ornate Baroque calligraphic style. The cipher is surmounted by an open royal crown with fleur-de-lis finials and pearl-studded arches. The surrounding legend is incuse along the periphery in Latin script. The overall design reflects the high Baroque engraving tradition characteristic of late seventeenth-century Scandinavian coinage. |

| Reverse description | Central device features the crowned lion rampant of Norway, passant to the right with tail raised and tongue extended, rendered in bold relief within a wreath of laurel and olive branches tied at the base. A royal crown surmounts the wreath at the top of the field. The denomination '4 MARK' appears in the surrounding peripheral legend alongside the date 1688, with the motto legend completing the circumscription. The composition is characteristic of the heraldic Baroque style employed at the Kongsberg Mint during the reign of Christian V. |
