| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse of the host coin — a 2 Macutas piece struck under João, Prince Regent of Portugal — features the crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms at center, an armillary sphere superimposed over the shield, all within a beaded inner circle. The legend encircling the field reads AFRICA·PORTUGUEZA· with the date 1816 (or 1815 on earlier host pieces) and the denomination MACUTAS 2 arranged around the periphery. The rim is formed by a series of close-set milled dentils. The overall design reflects the neo-classical engraving style typical of early 19th-century Portuguese colonial coinage. |
