Obverse description Crowned escutcheon bearing the quartered arms of Bavaria (lozengy bendy sinister argent and azure) and Liège (or, on a sable field a lion rampant), flanked by the denomination numerals '4' and 'L' in the field to left and right respectively. The circular legend reads the abbreviated title of Jean-Théodore of Bavaria, Cardinal and Duke, arranged around the shield. The heraldic composition is rendered in a bold baroque style typical of mid-18th century ecclesiastical coinage of the Prince-Bishopric of Liège.
