This piece dates to the Kipper und Wipperzeit — the currency crisis of 1619–1623 that destabilized monetary circulation across the Holy Roman Empire. Smaller German states, Anhalt among them, debased their coinage aggressively during this period to profit from the difference between face value and silver content before the system collapsed. Six co-ruling princes appear as issuers here because Anhalt operated under a division-of-rule arrangement unusual even by German territorial standards, the principality having been partitioned among multiple Ascanian lines simultaneously.
