Obverse description Draped and armored bust of Sigismund II Augustus facing right, wearing a closed royal crown, with a short beard, enclosed within a raised inner circle. The king's effigy is rendered in the Renaissance portrait style characteristic of mid-16th-century Polish-Lithuanian coinage. A Latin legend encircles the bust in the outer field, interrupted by small star stops. The legend reads SIGIS AVG D G REX PO MAG DVX LI, identifying the ruler as Sigismund Augustus, by the grace of God King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania.
