Carlos III's monetary reforms of the 1770s pushed colonial mints toward the milled coinage system, and Guatemala's Casa de Moneda — established in Santiago de los Caballeros before the 1773 earthquake forced the city's relocation — was still operating through considerable administrative disruption during this exact window. The mint moved with the colonial capital to Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción, and pieces struck across this transitional period can show subtle differences in die workmanship reflecting the upheaval of that relocation.
Fr#11 is scarce relative to the 8 Escudos of the same reign and mint, a disparity that likely reflects lower authorised production quotas rather than survival rates.
