Obverse description Central shield bearing the arms of Bern — a diagonal band with a walking bear — rendered in high relief within an elaborate Baroque cartouche of acanthus scrollwork. The shield is surmounted by a mural crown with five visible points. To the left of the cartouche, a large palm branch extends upward, while an olive branch flanks the right side. The circular Latin legend MON · REIP · BERNENSIS is distributed around the periphery of the field.

Reverse description A symmetrical Baroque cartouche of elaborate scrollwork, featuring foliated volutes at the sides and an ornamental finial at the top, encloses the four-line devotional Latin inscription. A single prominent ball or boss ornament appears at the base of the cartouche, anchoring the design. The lettering is boldly struck in raised roman capitals across four lines within the cartouche field, conveying the pious motto of the Bernese republic. The overall composition is characteristic of the refined Swiss gold coinage of the late 18th century.
